This isn’t exactly breaking news, but incredibly popular Brooklyn “indie” (ha!) group TV On The Radio have a new album coming out on September 23. It’s called Dear Science.
Also not really news: “Golden Age” proves, yet again, that these guys are so far beyond their peers on so many levels — songwriting, instrumentation, and just plain originality. Listening to this track kind of makes me hate all other music for its relative lack of anything new or interesting.

I’m so excited about wierdness becoming common in pop (read: pop, as in genre AND pop, as in “popular”) music again. It’s like all the good parts of silly and bizarre 80s pop have come rushing back to punch us all in the face. But in a fun way. And I think it will continue, as most current pop (as in “popular”) music is dull and unimaginative enough to bore even the drones at this point.
Or perhaps I’m falling into the same assumption-trap in which I often find myself — the one that causes me to assume that your typical consumer-of-media is more autonomous and discerning than I fear they actually are. Ah well, cautious and self-delusional optimism isn’t the worst habit I can think of.
Chairlift are casually weird and they’re from Brooklyn just like everyone else and MGMT remixed this song for their debut 7” and you should give them a listen. Yep.
